Background

Somaliland National Youth Organizations (SONYO Umbrella) is the largest youth-run network that is registered under the Ministry of Planning/Development as non-for-profit, humanitarian, and development organization in Somaliland. SONYO brings together more than 56 youth organizations across the country and plays pivotal and pertinent roles in promotion of youth rights in Somaliland through implementation of projects/programs, capacity building of youth and youth CSOs/groups, networking & information dissemination, advocacy and policy development, implementation and research.

About Project

Somaliland DANIDA LOT CIV is an Integrated project Funded by Danida in partnership with save the children- Somaliland and implementing by SONYO umbrella. It is aim is to support local civil society partners including associations to work as unified approach to become a vibrant strong CSO that contribute, Advocate and reduce the physical, institutional and social violence against children and youth. In order to achieve the mainly objective is to civil society partners in Somaliland including youth associations; contribute to reducing physical institutional and social violence against children and youth.

Purpose and Objectives of the Consultancy

The overall aim of the consultancy is to deliver entrepreneurial skills and business development training for 100 youth graduates from technical vocational skills -TVET who had challenges accessing to the labor market or lack of opportunities to start their own business and improve the employability opportunities through business development support and entrepreneurship training.

Specifically, the consultancy aims:

• Provision of entrepreneurship training which meant to equip the trainees knowledge and skills on how to generate business ideas, marketing, small business management, financial literacy, resource mobilization and business planning among others
• Exhibiting entrepreneurial behavior for business success and applying reasonable standards of excellence in performance.
• Introducing and piloting successful business proposal development templates, comprehensive successful business plans and access to financial products for business startups.
• Enhancing their skills towards conducting effective crowd funding campaigns, and simplest way to get connected to the business financing institutions and potential investors.
• Equipping them with the right skills of making successful pitching.

Scope of the Work

The training will be conducted in Hargeisa With youth TVET graduates selecting from TVET centers the training will be divided in to 3 cohort (35 each cohort) for period of 5 days each cohort in march 2021. The Consultant will have to make sure trainees are able to:

• Exhibit entrepreneurial behavior for business success
• Assess and strengthen their entrepreneurial skills
• Set challenging and attainable business goals
• Perceive and act on business opportunities
• Know how to cost, price, market and sell their products
• Source and use information for market development
• Apply reasonable standards of excellence in their performance
• Keep good records and use them to manage their businesses
• Improve interpersonal and networking competences.
• Prepare and use a business plan
• Build up confidence to make effective presentations

Methodology

Following are some of proposed methods for the business development training:

• Develop course outline and contents of the Training
• Prepare necessary handouts for the training participants.
• Prepare a training delivery schedule.
• Submit the final training documents (manual and power point slides, group work exercise etc.
• Prepare and submit the training reports with photographs of the participants
• Effective training methodologies, mostly practical group work, plenary discussions, short lectures
• Conduct pre and post training evaluation to discover the level of knowledge of the participants

Deliverables

• Conduct desk research using SONYO and SCI business development manuals and other relevant materials and come up with contextualized training materials including trainer guides and templates for practice.
• Submit all drafted training materials to SONYO for review and inputs
• Comprehensive training report in PDF Format and one in DOC format.
• An electronic copy of all training materials and content including presentations, handouts, videos and assessment tools.
• High quality photos.
• Cooperative completed business plans

Duration and timeline

• The duration of the assignment is expected to be 2 days preparatory, 15days of Training and 3days of reporting which will be total of 20 National working days.During those days the consultant will: –
• Develop and submit of the inception report (includes detailed methodology, training content and assessment tools)
• Train on business startup enterprise and business plan development
• Build business cooperative groups and finalize their Business plans
• Write report and submit of draft  and final report

Qualification

• University degree / Master of Business, commercial / Marketing.
• Have experience in the field of facilitation of similar training and specially entrepreneurship training and business proposal developments and mentoring.
• Certified training of trainers
• Over 5 years’ experience on training facilitation
• Good communication and Report writing skills- English and Somali(Desirable)
• Good computer skills.
• Ability to work independently, flexible under pressure
• Demonstrated experience and proven records in undertaking similar assignments.
• Available for time-durations specified in ToR.
