1. About ActionAid International Somaliland

Action Aid International Somaliland (AAIS) is part of global federation working to end poverty and injustice with thousands of communities and millions of people across the planet guided by its strategy ‘Action for global Justice’ that ensures coherence, aligning with the poor and excluded people, re-asserting women’s rights, strengthening accountability, and building resilience against shocks & hazards.

Action Aid started working in Somaliland in 1983, in response to refugee crisis at the time and temporarily closed its office in 1990 during the armed conflict) and deteriorating security elsewhere. In June 1992, ActionAid re-opened the office in Erigavo, Sanaag region and expanded to Togdheer region in 1998, and further expanded to Moradijeh region in 2006. In 2005, AAIS opened sub-office in Garowe, Puntland in response to tsunami disaster which hit 720km along the Indian Ocean and scaled out its program to Bari region of Puntland and Marodijeh region of Somaliland.
